FLORIDA EVERGLADES: Not restoring the Everglades is an opportunity missed

I recently read a nice New York Times piece on politics, priorities, and restoring the Florida Everglades. Restoration efforts could improve the ecosystem services provided by the Everglades, such as increasing the availability of water to communities. Otherwise, not restoring the Everglades is a missed opportunity to improve the ecosystem services that the wetlands provide. An excerpt from “Effort to Save Everglades Falters as Funds Drop“:

Seven years into what was supposed to be a four-decade, $8 billion effort to reverse generations of destruction, federal financing has slowed to a trickle. Projects are already years behind schedule. Thousands of acres of wetlands and wildlife habitat continue to disappear, paved by developers or blasted by rock miners to feed the hungry construction industry.
