I believe it is a smart move for the EU to ban the cloning of livestock. Cloning livestock ranks up there with feeding cows feed made from cows to save costs which ultimately caused mad cow disease or Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy or BSE for short to spread thus giving us its related variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease. Here is a scary thought: Creutzfeldt–Jacob disease is being misdiagnosed as dementia or even Alzheimer’s Disease. From thisislondon.co.uk

Cloning breeding stock could create monster pigs and supersize cows.

But the technology means many cloned offspring die just before or soon after birth. Some have malformed lungs, hearts and kidneys.

The ethics group said: “Considering the suffering, we do not see arguments to justify production of food from clones and their offspring.”

Food safety chiefs in Europe and the U.S. both, however, recently announced their support for clone farming and food.
