SHARK WEEK on The Conservation Report

IMAGE shows a swimmer with a basking shark—a harmless plankton feeder—off the Cornish coast.

This week on The Conservation Report, I am focusing on recent news about sharks, so in addition to my regular blog posts, I will disseminate several shark related stories from around the world. As a result, I’m making the third week of July shark week at The Conservation Report. What fun! I just hope that the phrase “Shark Week” isn’t exclusive to or copyrighted by the Discovery Channel.

I’m focusing on sharks, because I have recently read several interesting news postings on the marine beasts, so I feel the need to report what’s being reported.

Furthermore, sharks are not only important ecologically but culturally as well. Certainly, sharks are dichotomized, because human fascination with sharks can be both positive and negative. Additionally, sharks are threatened around the world by anthropogenic activities such as fishing and pollution, so it’s important to raise awareness about these fascinating marine beasts.  Basically, I hope to tell the story of sharks through what’s currently happening around the world.

Enjoy Shark Week at The Conservation Report!

Haha, I think “Shark Week” is kinda like Christmas, it’s more of a national (or international?) event. :)
