About eight weeks remain in the U.S. presidential race, and although all presidential races are important, this race is particularly important. We know Joe Biden, we know Barack Obama, and we know John McCain, but we don’t know Sarah Palin.
If Palin can’t handle the media asking demanding questions about her policies and preparedness, then how will she manage the challenge of world politics? Most of the media blames the blogsphere for the controversy over stories regarding Sarah Palin’s personal life and policies. However, I believe that her personal life is fair game to an extent. As a voter, I want to know if she believes in banning certain books from the library, using contraceptives or sex education, or teaching creationism with evolution in schools.
I believe there should be more transparency regarding Palin. Barack Obama was put through meaningful scrutiny regarding his personal life by bloggers, pundits, and the press. However, the republicans conveniently hide Palin from public scrutiny. It’s a smart strategy. No doubt if she had been available from the onset to answer tough questions, she wouldn’t be such a dramatic figure.
I am interested to see what Charles Gibson fleshes out in his interview with her. If the press isn’t allowed to do it, then Palin has the burden of producing meaningful evidence negating any claims she or the republican party maintains are false.
In regards to the controversy over banning books, the question shouldn’t be did Palin ban books in Wasilla as mayor, but did Palin attempt to ban books in Wasilla as mayor.
