FACEBOOK status updates + ignorance and President-elect Obama = madness
I’m from North Carolina, so I’ve networked my fair share of Republicans into my Facebook (although some of my contacts believe they’re Republican but have no idea what it means). Of course, after Barack Obama became President-elect Obama, some of the status updates on my Facebook homepage turned insane, ill informed, ignorant, or blatantly racist—and some folks believe animal rights activists and vegans are extremists; personally, I believe animal rights activists and vegans are the least of America’s worries! People are free to disagree with politics, but do it intelligibly or in a way that shows you’ve researched the issues. The top ignoramuses (names protected) from my Facebook, and how some of their friends responded to their updates are below:
- Xxx “is glad I have my faith in God or I would be terrified of the man who is about to run this Nation of ours…I Better pick out an oufit for our Nations Funeral~!”
- Xxxxx “was out of it for one day and we elect a socialist…hopefully he can’t do too much damage in 4 years.”
- Xxxxxxxx “hasnt decided if im gonna quit my job, apply for food stamps, and wait on my check every month or move to Canada!”
- Xxxxxxxxxxx “heard they were tearing down the statue of liberty and putting up a statue of Aunt Jemima holding a chicken leg.”
- Xxxxxxx “says ‘Welcome to the not-so middle class!’ we’re all skrewed!”
- Xxxxxxxx is scared shitless!
- Xxxxxx “is hmmm is disgusted that people are excited about Barack as our leader. Sad.”

“Amen, we shall see how the next 4 years go”- Xxxxx Xxxxx at 11:25pm November 4
“i know what you mean! it wont take long to fiqure out they were wrong”- Xxxxxxx Xxxxxxx at 12:58am November 5 via Facebook Mobile
“it’s only a matter of time before we can say ‘I told ya so’”- Xxxx Xxxxxxxxxx at 8:32am November 5
“its a sad sad day….there are a lot of dumb people in this country….PRAY FOR US!”. . .
- Xxxx Xxxxxx at 1:40pm November 5
“If you’d like to know what we’re in for, I suggest you do a little research on Rhodesia w/Robert Mugabe, and South Africa w/Nelson Mandela. The USA has no idea what’s it’s in for.

Here is more information regarding the phenomenon from Mollygood:
The most entertaining portion of last night’s election coverage wasn’t on CNN or FOX News — it was on Facebook, where all of the crazies congregated to update their statuses in rapid succession. As you may know, I spent the first 22 years of my life in Texas, so 90 percent of my friends on the networking site are Republicans. I did not know, however, that most of them are also clinically insane.

Living in England the reaction was obviously quite different but I did see a lot of “they only elected him because he’s black”
Wow. This is scary, seriously scary business.
