PRESIDENT OBAMA takes on Rush Limbaugh
Matt Drudge is calling Obama’s warning for Republicans not to listen to Rush Limbaugh’s empty rhetoric a “Media War.” When did Rush Limbaugh become part of the media? Of course, such an assertion is to admit the existence of the Bush Administration’s and the Republican’s attempts to control the media—not to mention corporate efforts to homogenize the media.
I recognize the need for bipartisanship, but my problem with some Republicans are their attempts to sabotage almost everything politically, ignore the facts and reality, promote divisiveness and culture war, in addition to being total hypocrites.
President Obama is absolutely correct to call out Rush Limbaugh, especially after Limbaugh recently expressed his hope for the Obama Administration to fail by saying, “I want him to fail” to Sean Hannity of FOX News. Personally, I disagreed with the Bush Administration’s policies on Iraq, but I never wished for the Administration’s policies to fail.

Obama was elected by a majority and has both houses of Congress under his control.
Yet the Democrats continue to blame, blame, blame Republican boogeymen for all the world’s problems.
How about admitting that George Bush had a hard job which he did well, and they’re only just beginning to understand.
The Democrats are now inside the glasshouse — and yet they continue to throw stones !!!
Excellent Post! The problem with Bush was that he was trying to please too many people all of the time – you can’t play ‘nice’ with your enemies – as was proven by his eight years of reign. The more he did with / for Democrats, the more it backfired on him.
Poor schlup! Yes, it is true that Bush messed up – a lot. There is no doubt of it, but Obama was in the Congress during those same eight years, and Congress screwed up just as much as the President did. Obama has been in office since January, passing us into the biggest debt that we have ever been in – ever! This country has to rally to get ourselves back to our origins!
We are a Capitalist society – not Socialists. I want the great American dream – It has been coined that for a reason – because here you could do anything, be anything, gain anything – because we are not all equal – we are individuals in a free-market society. “The Government is not the answer, the Government is the problem”. – Ronald Reagan, 1981.
Do YOU really want this government making all of your decisions for YOU? Are you sure? Because that is exactly what THEY want.
Soon Obama will have the FCC shut down Rush and others.
It works in Russia and China. Perhaps Obama can shut down this guy.
Oh, excellent. Now we want to be more like the communists? Being Socialists isn’t enough for you? What an idealist you truly are!
Yes, let us ‘shut-up’ all of those that we disagree with – why didn’t I think of that? Is there any way to shut up idiots that think it’s okay to ignore the “Freedom of Speech” Amendment in the Constitution of the United States of America? Or, I know, let’s just use that old rag as toilet paper!
What a moron!
Well, sir, you are the exception to the rule, then. Constant negative reporting on the Iraq War was just one indication that the mainstream liberal media wanted Bush’s policies to fail. Bush was bashed more than any other president in recent memory, from both sides, I might add. Obama, on the other hand, has been given so many passes already, that it’s soothing to see someone looking at him critically. Though I disagree with Limbaugh’s sentiment (his policies better not fail!), I’m glad to see that he has successfully exposed the real nature of Obama’s “post-partisanship.” In Obama-speak, post-partisanship means avoiding divisive debates about real issues. Instead of getting upset and angry about opposing viewpoints, both sides should give in to whoever is in power (“I won”). In this case, the Democrats are in power, so the Republicans are expected to bend over and take it. Truth must take a backseat to the will of the slight majority. Only then can people get along in a non-partisan spirit.
Exactly. Mark.
President elect Obama has been going all over the globe apologizing for AMERICA. What? Let me say this: Are you sorry for anything, America?
And the main-stream media giving the locations of where our soldiers were, where they were going next, and how they would be getting there (what route) truly helped American soldiers out during the worst of the Iraq war! IDIOTS. I have absolutely no right to be “informed” of these military maneuvers or secrets! The media cost many Amercian lives, caused American blood to spill in that desolate desert. Thank you, TIMES, NEWSWEEK, POST. Appreciate it.
I didn’t want nor did I need to have this information coming at me 24/7.
It’s time for all of us not to point fingers or take political sides but, work together. Our country is a complete mess and it’s going to all of us working together to fix it.
Either you are apart of the problem or apart of the solution.
You choose!
you mean divisiveness not decisiveness
The GOP senators really control congress. No matter what is passed by the House, it must pass the Senate and rules mean the vote must be 60 yea–so the GOP can and has blocked 90+% of legislation in the last 3 yrs. While the stupid media blares –the senate today voted against….THE GOP SENATORS voted to block.
I hope that Rush is gone and the sooner the better. I knew Rush from back in Pittsburgh when he was a local DJ using the name Jeff Christy on KQV-FM. Rush is a hate monger who laughs all the way to the bank at the morons who slop at the EIB trough daily. He revels in causing division like a little bully in grade school. The sad thing is that there are so many misinformed people who buy into his rant without ever doing there own research. Our country would be better served at this point in history by all of us trying to fix the mess we’ve been left with.
Left with. Great way of putting it. God knows Obama hasn’t done any digging himself. Nah, I love the American dollar being worth less than the paper it’s printed upon. I love being in the biggest debt that we have EVER faced as a Nation under this president. I love extremely high taxes and no stimuli. I love being told what to do, when to do it, and which doctor I can go to, and whether or not they are allowed to treat me. You sir, are truly an amazing person with a high I.Q.
Let’s fix it then: Impeach Obama now before he can do anymore harm. OR grow some – and Tell him that we are not going to lay down and let Government bully us around, fire our CEO’s (private businesses still elect them, or did I miss that memo?), choose our healthplans, etc.
Jeff Christy may have been all that you remember him of being, but as Rush Limbaugh the man is a genuis. I happen to have a mind, a brain that works perfectly, and can do my very own ‘research’ and still come to the exact same conclusions that Rush Limbaugh comes to. What do you want to say about me now? And would you be willing to say this to me in person?
I am a strong, independent thinker, with a very high moral compass and a value system that is important both in my life and to the lives of my children. How dare you attack Rush Limbaugh, someone who you are not worthy of licking his shoes clean! This man is a true American and God Bless Him all the way to that Bank.
Look, like Rush or not, he does not give out misinformation. If he did, he would then truly be a laughing-stock. The (drive-by) media would then be able to honestly rip him apart. As could everyone else. Instead, all anyone can do is insult him rather than thoughtfully and respectfully disproving him with facts. By the way, Rush didn’t get to be who or where he is by feeding the airwaves with misinformation. For all of the ignoramuses who still (after almost a week or so) don’t understand Rush’s comment, you can go back to sleep. You might as well continue not to pay any attention whatsoever and come out again in 4 years to vote to re-elect President Obama.
Thanks for the correction hal!
WTF, at least El Rushbo is constitutionally qualified to be President!
“President Obama is absolutely correct to call out Rush Limbaugh”
Wrong, President Obama should get used to conservative talk radio being critical of him or any other media for that matter. Radio talk show host Michael Savage who is a conservative independent was very critical of Bush, yet Bush didn’t call him out.
I believe Rush wants Obama to success, but not with his current policies. The Bank crisis was not only about profits but spreading the wealth, subprime rates allowed people, including minorities who normally couldn’t afford such houses to afford them, assuming houses would always go up in price. The likes of Barney Frank and Obama even Bush endorsed such loaning practices. That is why there was no major push to correct the problem until the problem became too obvious when the market crashed.
Obama wants to create government jobs to restore the economy. This is not going to work. If the economy does turn around it will come from the private sector not government jobs. Spreading the wealth in the housing market is an example of a bad economy policy.
Rush did say that he wants Obama to fail but you failed to state his reason for saying that. He said he wanted them to fail if it meant that Obama would use the office of the President to push his liberal agendas. I think any Republican would agree with him on that. While I am not a Republican, I agree with Rush that I want Obama to fail and be gone in 2012 if by that you mean I don’t want him to push his liberal agenda.
Seems like $100,000 is considered rich. I really feel for the middle class now! Rush is a pretty smart man in my opinion.
How about paying attention to Pres Obams’s actual statement “you can’t JUST listen to Limbaugh” He didn’t say don’t listen to him – do take in other opinions. I can’t believe conservatives read that badly – they are intentionally wanting to appear as victims – their favorate pose!
What conservative is intentionally wanting to appear as a victim? Can you give some specific examples? How did you read ‘victim’ into this subject anyhow? Be specific about this, and try not to get too off the subject here.
I think that Rush and Coulter should hook up! Just think how much money they could make off of the willing and whining conservatives! Too funny!
Well, for all you self-loving conservatives, looks like your conservative agendas worked real well over the past eight years! You conservatives took a surplus (created by a liberal President with a liberal agenda might I remind you) and turned it into the largest deficit in our history. You took us to the WRONG war while underfunding the real one. BTW, before you start the unpatriotic crap, I’m a “Desert Storm” veteran so don’t go there! As for Bush having a hard job, HE MADE HIS ON BED and now we must sleep in it! I’m so glad that little village in Texas has their missing idiot back!
Rush Limbaugh is an entertainer. I think the whole problem is that people take him seriously. He’s not a journalist; not by any stretch of the imagination. Tune in to Rush if you want, laugh or cry, but don’t take him seriously.
Maybe that’s the message here: our problems are real and this isn’t a good time for political comedy.
When people write, “We shouldn’t be partisan, we should all work together on this,” they’re implying that Republicans are trying to block the stimulus package for selfish political reasons. In reality, Republicans are objecting to the Democrats’ attempt to insert their own unnecessary pet projects into the deal. Why should taxpayers fork out funding for contraceptives when the goal should be fixing the economy.
Thanks for your service Jerry. You have done what so many of us wouldn’t or couldn’t do. No one is insinuating that anyone is unpatriotic. I wanted to ask you what you meant by willing and whining conservatives? What whining is going on? All I hear from so-called conservatives is that we must get along with the new President and let him see what he will do. Statements like “The time to criticize is not now.”, “The parties must come together and get things done.” etc. There are not many elected Republicans acting as conservatives. Being Republican doesn’t automatically make you a conservative, and vice versa.
True, Bush and the Republicans spent us into oblivion, but our real troubles started after the Democrats took over in 2006. Let’s not get off topic here as so many of these topics usually do.
Our problems began when we allowed a narrow-minded ideology and a narrow-minded president (Bush) to oversee and manage a complex, multicultural country and influence a complex world. Stop blaming Bill Clinton. Furthermore, blaming America’s problems on the Democrats from 2006 is dishonest. Republicans aren’t immune to criticism. They’ve been notoriously wrong on environmental issues and implementing foreign policy, in addition to tackling social issues. What happened to personal responsibility and accountability?
This is in response to fenstermacher’s comment. Rush certainly is an entertainer but by no means does he solely do his show so his audience can laugh for three hours a day. If you were talking about Jon Stewart I’d totally agree with you. Please, I know this is hard for liberals, but please don’t comment what you don’t know about.
I knew this would happen Joe American, someone would totally take this conversation to another planet. Please stay on the original thread. Who’s talking about Bill Clinton? Please stay on course. I know it’s hard…but concentrate.
If his first three items of concern, the mollycoddling of the 9/11 terrorists, using American taxpayer money to fund overseas abortions, and asking for $800 billion more to throw at this failed bailout scheme are any any indication of his policies, who would want him to succeed except someone who puts party over logic? There’s way too much of this us vs. them, I’ll agree, but isn’t that really why Bush and Obama both wound up in the oval office – Republicans wanted revenge for Bush I’s loss and Democrats hated Bush. This rhetoric from Obama is very, very reminiscent of Richard Nixon. He was power-hungry also, and did not like criticism. Rush did have a good alternate to the bailout. Maybe Obama should listen to him once in a while! Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
The willing and whining conservatives that I’m referring to are the followers of the likes of Hannity, Limbaugh, Coulter. The ones I deal with here in Tennessee. The ones that defend Bush and his, law breaking, administration. The list grows! I can say that I’ve been happy so far as to how congress is trying to work together at the moment. And if you are trying to blame all the problems of the Bush Administration on the last 2 years after the Dems took over just stop. That is nonsense! I’ve heard this BS before and it is just that, BS!
I hope Obama make a changes.
Look Jerry, first off, I want to hear specific whining comments, not who is doing the whining. It was predictable to say the followers of Hannity, Limbaugh and Coulter. What were they whining about specifically? Just tell us all the whining remarks? This conversation is about how PRESIDENT OBAMA takes on Rush Limbaugh. What kind of specific whining is being said about this topic? If you want to talk about how the Democrats made things worse then they were before they took over, start a new thread at another place. Keep on target…concentrate!
Jerry,
Nobody in here is blaming the Bush’s problems on Obama. He was part of the problem with the banking crisis because he was a Senator who failed to make a major push for reforming the system before it went bankrupt. Both Dems and GOP were to blame, it was a team effort for a major bust.
Besides back in 2006 when they won the majority the Dems promised they would reduce oil prices. Well oil prices are reduced…lol
