ANIMAL WELFARE: Turtle deformed by being trapped in a six-pack plastic ring

mae-west-turtle-plastic-ring

The first video below is a couple of years old, but I’ve just recently come across it. It shows a turtle that was deformed from being encased within a six-pack plastic ring.  The second video is of a snapping turtle (shown in the image) affectionately named Mae West that suffered deformities from being trapped within a plastic ring.

I thought these videos are excellent to highlight the importance of (1) reducing waste, (2) the utility in recycling (when possible and as much as possible), tossing our trash that can’t be recycled into the garbage bin (or don’t purchase items that aren’t recyclable, or that contain non-recyclable packaging, or needless packaging), and (3) rethinking how we consume and handle our waste.

Related: SYNTHETIC SEA: No, trash doesn’t magically disappear, just like barrels of oil don’t magically grow on trees

Obviously I can not type –

The rest of that should have read: Or rather it is a very obvious sign of how nature adapts to Man’s use of the world. Reducing waste will NOT end issues such as this. Ending the existence of Humans, however, will. Nature will always adapt and flourish. Are you really arguing for the end of our presence in the world?

      MAE WEST TURTLE
      When the turtle began growing
why didn’t the turtle growing shell
pop off the milk jug plastic ring??

I surprised the plastic six pack rings did not become
      embedded into the turtles shell

We really need better turtle nutritionists in that part of the country. We all know turtles aren’t suppose to be drinking products intended for human beings! MAKE HASTE! RAISE AWARENESS!
