GREEN ROOFS mitigate stormwater runoff, pollution, and produce energy savings


Stormwater runoff is a significant contributor of pollution to the Chesapeake Bay. However, green roofs act as a sponge to soak up significant amounts of rainwater, therefore reducing runoff. Here’s a nice video illustrating the use of a green roof in Washington D.C.

  1. Green roofs are becoming pretty commonplace. The developer who is going to redo the old Westlawn Shopping Center on Route 50 is going to put one on the new building. They are promising a meaningful reduction in polluted stormwater runoff from the place.
